Today we woke to pretty blue sky and sunshine. It was warmer today, you didn't need a coat until late evening. We went to Amanda's house and then visited a couple more covered bridges. Both of them were well over 100 years old. We just had a leisure day. We made supper and had sharp cheddar mac and cheese with chicken and butternut squash, applesauce and spinich salad. We watched the wild turkey bunch walk through the yard again on their way to their evening roost. We leave here tomorrow around 12 noon and leave Hartford around 5:45pm arrive Boise 11:10pm. Mom and Dad will drive back to Ohio, they hope to stop at Glenn Falls on the way.

Today is the Keene Pumpkin Festival. The Children's parade started at 12pm, the kids had fun walking in the parade. The weather is cloudy, windy and cool but at least no rain. All the food booths are serving different food items so there aren't 25 booths serving hamburgers and hot dogs. We had pumpkin bisque soup, minestrone soup, chili, handcut fries and brats to eat. Then we had pumpkin pie in a cone, maple cookies and fried dough for dessert. We came back to the hotel to rest for a couple of hours and will go back around 7pm for the lighting of the jack-o-laterns and the fireworks. Here are some pictures.

10-15-10

Today, we woke to pouring rain and wind gusts to 35mph. So we used it as a down day. We hung out at the hotel for part of the morning and then went to Amanda's house for part of the day. We watched a huge flock of wild turkeys trot through the pasture. They were cleaning up all the dropped grain from the horses and we watched the new Alice in Wonderland. We went to Sears and got family pictures taken. Not many families can say they have four generations still alive and kickin'. We went to supper at PapaGallos, fine Italian food, brickfired pizzas and good atmosphere. No pictures today.

Today, we went to see a covered bridge in Winchester, NH you can even drive through it. There are seven covered bridges in the area so hope to hit a couple more. Then we headed to the Yankee Candle factory. We all still smell like candles. The place was enormous, we did not get through the whole thing. It was really decorated and really neat to see. We came back to Amanda's and had pulled pork sandwiches, homemaded coleslaw and baked beans for supper. Another successful meal!

Wednesday 10/14/10

Today, we started by eating breakfast at Lindy's Diner, they make their own special breads for toast and cinnamon buns the size of your head. We went north to Center Harbor, the home of Keepsake Quilts. What a store! We won't even talk about how much we spent there. The trees are beautiful. We ate supper at Canoe's, a gourmet dinner along the lake. It was about a 2 hour drive through mountains, trees of hardwood and pine and color that almost hurt your eyes. It was a sunny warm day. It would be torture to have to live in one of the houses along the lake, I would cry every day. hehehe

Today is Tuesday, we spent the day at Amanda's house. We worked on dog proofing the dog run, the dogs decided they wanted out so they chewed through the pickets and then dug under the chicken wire. The pen now has bricks under the pickets so no digging and we put 1"x6" lumber along the bottom of the pickets so no more chewing through the wood. We got their new woodburner installed and working. And around 9pm the weanlings decided to go on a walkabout so we were all outside beating the bushes for baby horses. We had to go get Elita out of her stall and take her with us so the babes would follow us home. It is really dark out there in the woods! By the way, we have been to four different stores here and we cannot find a fly swatter anywhere.
