Fall in New Hampshire
We arrived on time in New Hampshire. The fall colors are beautiful and getting better with each day. On Sunday, we traveled to Hampton Beach on the coast and walked the beach, the waves were not trying to wash us away. We drove up the coast line to Portsmouth New Hampshire and went to see Fort Constitution (originally a British fort). This is were the first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired. Paul Revere rode in and told the Militia that the British were getting ready to reinforce the fort and if they didn't go in now the British would be embedded. The 400 America Militia decided to attack and took the fort then transported the ammunitions to Bunker Hill where they used it to win the battle against the British. Talk about recycling. We taught Emma how to march like a solider through the fort. We went up into the light house near the fort, what a view. We then drove past a WWI Submarine Lookout tower and Gun mount where we watched for German U boats along the coast. Some of the homes along the drive were built in the 1600's, big huge plantation type homes. I think we are moving!!! We ended up in Portsmouth where the streets are still cobblestone and only wide enough for a horse and carriage and the front doors of the houses are right on the street so the women did not have to drag their dresses in the mud or snow getting out of the carriage. We eat dinner in a restaurant on the inlet river. The River House, casual riverfront dining. Man was the food good. After dinner, we walked to an icecream shoppe called Izzy's and had handmade icecream, they has pumpkin icecream and apple cobbler icecream.
